12 questions to ask before you sign a D&D venue contract
Three quotes, three different pricing bases, and a deadline. This is the list we would want an organiser to bring to us — and to every other venue they are considering. Ask all twelve, write the answers in one column each, and the decision usually makes itself.

Is the price nett, or before service charge and GST?
Why it mattersA 10% service charge and 9% GST add roughly 20% to a quoted price, so two "similar" quotes can be thousands apart (getout.sg dinner and dance cost guide, read 17 September 2026).
Major 99's answerEvery price we quote is nett. S$2,800 nett on the quote is S$2,800 on the invoice — no GST added, no service charge added.

What exactly is included at my headcount?
Why it mattersSimilar per-pax prices commonly mask very different inclusions — AV, furniture, operations and F&B (getout.sg, read 17 September 2026). Get the inclusion list in writing, not the price alone.
Major 99's answerEvery written quote lists them: the main hall, the stage, full AV and the LED screen, both pool tables, the party-games table, the beer towers in your package tier, and free-flow soft drinks for the whole event.

How many people actually fit once tables, aisles and a stage go in?
Why it mattersHeadline capacity is often the empty-room number; halls get cramped once tables, service aisles and a stage are installed (getout.sg year-end venue checklist, read 17 September 2026).
Major 99's answerOur main hall seats 250 for dinner and holds up to 350 standing, with the stage in place. Corporate events run 20–350 pax depending on layout and package; our team confirms the layout for your headcount before you commit.

What time do we get in, and what time must we be out?
Why it mattersOvertime is where budgets break: going past the contracted end time commonly costs S$500–2,000 per additional hour (getout.sg, read 17 September 2026). Ask for both times in writing, in one line.
Major 99's answerOur packages are four event hours plus one hour of setup access before, and we write it the way you will live it: "6pm–10pm, access from 5pm." If you need longer, we agree it with you in writing before you sign — it is never a surprise on the night.

Who runs the AV on the night — your team, or a vendor I have to hire?
Why it mattersOrganisers commonly get caught out by not knowing who owns the programme — the emcee, and the AV technician's hours (getout.sg, read 17 September 2026). A venue that needs external AV, DJ and games vendors quietly raises your per-pax cost.

Are we the only event in the building that night?
Why it matters"Exclusive hire" and "your own function room" are not the same thing. Sharing a venue means sharing the lobby, the lifts, the toilets and the noise.
Major 99's answerOur hall packages give you the main hall. Full-Premises Booking — from S$13,000 nett, guideline from 150 pax — closes the venue: all nine private rooms are yours and no public is admitted for the duration.

What does the buffet really cost, and which tier is that "from" price?
Why it mattersA "from" catering price is always the entry tier. If Finance approved the "from" number and the committee is picturing the premium menu, the gap surfaces at the worst possible moment. Mid-range D&D catering in Singapore commonly runs S$45–95 per pax (getout.sg, read 17 September 2026).
Major 99's answerCatering is quoted separately, from S$20/pax nett: Value at S$20 (6 dishes, from 50 pax), Classic at S$25 (7 dishes, from 30 pax), Premium at S$30 (9 dishes, from 30 pax). A live carving station is a separate add-on on any tier. We tell you which tier your number is based on before it hardens.

Is halal catering available — and whose certification is it?
Why it mattersHalal and vegetarian options are often sourced separately from the venue, and "we can do halal" can mean several different things. Ask who holds the certificate and ask to see the current one.
Major 99's answerHalal-certified catering is available through our external catering partners. The certification belongs to the caterer, never to the venue. The caterer, current certification, menu and quotation are confirmed for your event before booking. Vegetarian on request.

What is your corkage policy?
Why it mattersCorkage commonly runs S$30–50 a bottle, which works out at roughly S$600–1,000 on a 200-pax event (getout.sg, read 17 September 2026). If your company has sponsor bottles or director's wine, ask before you plan around them.

How do guests get there — and is a shuttle bus a line item?
Why it mattersShuttle buses for venues that are hard to reach commonly cost S$300–800 per bus (getout.sg, read 17 September 2026), and parking charges have a habit of appearing late in the quote.
Major 99's answerWe are at #02-02 Broadway Plaza, 4190 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 — beside Ang Mo Kio MRT, with parking in the building and lift access to our floor. No shuttle line item, and nobody on your guest list gets left downstairs.

What is the deposit, when is the balance due, and what happens if headcount drops?
Why it mattersDeposit schedules differ, and third-party items your venue books on your behalf — catering, emcee, vendors — carry their own cancellation exposure. Get the whole schedule before you sign, not just the number on page one.
Major 99's answer20% deposit on the venue package secures your date exclusively, plus 50% on any third-party item (catering, emcee or performers, outside vendors). We state this on every quote and invoice. Tell us when your headcount firms up and we will put the catering confirmation date in writing too.

How fast will I get a written quote — and how early should I book?
Why it mattersYou are usually asked for three comparable quotes on a deadline. Lead times of 6–12 weeks are common, and peak season needs far more (getout.sg, read 17 September 2026).
Major 99's answerSend us the date, the start and end time, and your headcount, and you get a full written proposal within one business day. November and December go first — Q4 dates are the ones that book out early.
Two answers to insist on in writing
The end time and the pricing basis. Everything else on this list is easier to fix late than those two. If a venue will not put "nett or plus-plus" and "our event ends at __, access from __" in the written quote, that is the answer.
